When
asked different people the question “what is the main purpose of their
mobile’’, each gives a different answer. Even though the main purpose of
a mobile device is to make calls, the popular opinion is changing. With
all the advancements and technology every day, there is something new
that can make our task easy. I have put together some top purpose of smartphones, in my opinion. Let us see them now.
Communication
With
any advancement, let’s be honest with ourselves communication would be
the holy grail for mobile devices. All the applications, R&D
everything is to make the communication easy and to us make a tad bit
comfortable. Every effort is poured into making communication better.
Calls are not the only form of communication, text messages, emails,
video calls are also communication. This is why almost all the
applications that were originally used for chatting now allow users to
do voice calls and video calls. This is why everyone is in the
communication game, what’s app first had only text messages but now has
voice, video call and also voice note feature. Google’s due and hangout,
Gmail services, and apple’s facetime and iMessage. Even E.T was looking
for a way to call home. That is the importance of communication.
Entertainment
Here
comes the second thing smartphones are used for, entertainment. The
collective belief is that you cannot be bored with a smartphone in your
hand and that’s true to a level. We are practically inseparable from our
smartphones, because they save us from boredom and to avoid unwanted
interactions at the same time serving as an unlimited source of
entertainment. This is very clear that almost everything is now
supporting mobile platforms. Not to forget the fact that you can play
games on smartphones, motion games, multiplayer and games to sharpen
your brain and what not. Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon prime,
Disney+, Hulu, and HBO now know that we spend most of the time with our
mobile and are mobile friendly .There are a lot of social media
applications which allow you to post pictures, videos and scroll
endlessly through the feed like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Banking and e-wallets
This
fact proved that smartphones can be used for some serious stuff too.
Imagine the traditional banking, standing in queues, getting tokens,
which involves a lot of waiting and patience, filling up challans and
getting money. Sometimes the bank would not have enough money in case of
large withdrawals in rural sides. Imagine if you cannot withdraw your
own money. Now that has changed thanks to mobile banking and other
payment services, you can transfer money, without going to banks, buy
things online or in stores through and pay via these applications. And
then everyone wants a piece of it, so online wallets and other payment
services came to the party. And now you can pay your bills online,
mobile recharge, electric bills, DTH etc. Then tickets booking for
trains, buses, airplanes and so many more the list goes on.
E- commerce
Whether
we are ready to accept it or not, we want everything at the comfort of
where we are not because we are lazy but we don’t want to spend time if
it can be delivered to us. Be it food, grocery, clothing, makeup and
almost anything that can be delivered. Understanding this and amazon
sells almost everything. With prime membership, you get it within a day
at most now that the waiting barrier is out the way there is nothing
stopping us from ordering. There are a lot of websites that can deliver
things you want, amazon and sell different categories of products from
home decor, plants, groceries, clothing, furniture, products and so on.
But there are some applications that are specific in what they sell, per
se Nykaa sells makeup and skin care mostly, then Myntra, Shein sells
things that fills your wardrobe, AliExpress sells almost anything from
anywhere. Apps like Zomato and Swiggy deliver food. Dunzo went a step
ahead and offered to deliver your things or package from one place to
another.
These
are the most useful things that we use our phone for, there are still
many purposes except the top spot goes to them. And there are some
features specific to each smartphone, you might know them just by
browsing or asking around in any mobile phone shop in chennai or anywhere in India.
